Teaching Preschool at Home

Teaching preschool at home can be daunting. You see all the fancy curriculums and pinterest activities. You also feel spread thin, letting mom guilt often take over. Let’s simplify teaching preschool at home. Maybe you are working from home. Maybe you are working and teaching preschool at home. Read the following advice from a parent and educator and I hope it takes some weight off of your shoulders.

  • FLEX your schedule: “It looks like you need to move your body, let’s play tag then you get to read books!”
  • THROW away the idea of balance: Your life might not feel balanced right now in this season. That is ok. View everything that is on your plate as a teeter-totter: one day your tipping towards being with your children, and the next day you have to spend more time working…back and fourth.
  • SET Boundaries: “I’m working right now, but can help you when I’m done.”
  • TAKE weekend Wednesdays…know when to push on and when to pull back.
  • MAKE strucrtured learning simple and short. See my blog post about what we are doing this week with just paper and markers.
  • BREAK up your day into chunks of time with backup ideas at a moments notice. “You feel frustrated he won’t share with you, would you like to wait for your turn or come to the table to do a maze.”
